Geikie Gorge

Geikie Gorge

Limestone rock slide
Geikie gorge was our last inland Gorge to explore in the Kimberly region. We spent the morning in the boat discovering the beauty of Geikie Gorge near Fitzroy crossing. The limestone in the gorge walls is what makes this place unique. The girls enjoyed climbing through the holes and crevices, they even found a slippery slide. There were loads of birds who had made their nests in the Gorge walls and an a few freshwater crocodiles who have taken up residency in the gorge.

Girls climbing the Boab tree
That night we camped at the Boab Tree, an enormous tree which would be hundreds of years old I reckon. The girls had a ball climbing and exploring the tree. Also camped at the Boab tree were John and Craig, who were push bike riding across Australia, from Townsville to Broome. We were lucky to learn about their adventures and we took great pleasure in supplying them with the luxury of an icy cold beer.
